Do you have things laying around at home like coins, hairbands or just random stuff from your pocket? Those things don’t really belong anywhere so I just tell myself while cleaning up: put change directly to the wallet, throw old bus tickets away instead of putting them again and again in the pocket and so on. Well, we can improve ourselves and not produce this chaos at home or just accept it and organize some space for those little things where they can peacefully wait for going to trash.
I chose the second option so I decided to crochet a storage basket. It’s stylish, simple and practical. Perfect decoration for any interior. It’s perfect for ordering small items or just as a home decor. It takes about half an hour to crochet it! I am going to make more of them of different sizes, surely they will look great all together, no matter what is inside 😉
Materials:
- 6 mm crochet hook
- 4 mm packing twine
- scissors
Abbreviations:
- ch – chain
- st – stitch
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- dc – double crochet
- at the end of every round total number of stitches is shown in brackets
First of all I should warn you that the twine is very hard and can easily scratch your skin. To avoide skin damage you maight want to put adhesive tape on your finger!
The Pattern:
Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring, sl st (6)
Round 2: 3 ch, (2 dc in next st) X 6, sl st (12)
Round 3: 3 ch, (dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, dc in next st, 3 dc in next st) X 3, sl st (21)
Round 4: 1 ch, sc in all st in front loops only, sl st (21)
Round 5-6: 3 ch, dc in all st, sl st (21)
You can make more rounds if you want to have a taller basket. For example, if you want to store crochet hooks there, you should make 2-3 rounds more. I will stop here, I want to use the basket for the yarn rests and I am not planning to have more yarn rests than this volume 🙂
Was it fun to crochet with this tutorial? Have a look at my other patterns, maybe you will find something you like there!
What a neat idea! Thanks. 😉

Hi! Sorry for the late reply, I was on vocations and tried to use as little internet as possible 😉 T-shirt yarn is a great idea for making a basket! Did you make the yarn yourself? I would love to see a picture of the basket!
